Recycle BC – Beyond the Blue Box – online Tour, 2020

A virtual tour of successful EPR system design

On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, Zero Waste Washington co-hosted an online tour of Recycle BC’s program.

We dove into the Recycle BC Packaging and Paper Product Extended Producer Responsibility program. Recycle BC is responsible for residential packaging and paper product recycling throughout British Columbia. The recycling program is funded by businesses that supply packaging and paper product to BC residents. We heard from Recycle BC staff about how the whole system works, including a virtual tour of various facilities, operations, and components that make it run smoothly. We also heard from Washington’s State Senators Christine Rolfes and Mona Das, and Representatives Joe Fitzgibbon and Strom Peterson who spoke as part of a legislator panel.

The event was co-hosted with the Washington State Recycling Association as a WRED event.

Co-sponsors included:  Washington Beverage Association, Surfrider Foundation, the Seattle Aquarium, Environment Washington, the Latino Community Fun, Oceana and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance.

Thank you to the Point Break Foundation for providing support for this event.
