South King Tool Library
Zero Waste Washington worked with the City of Federal Way to catalyze the creation of a community Tool Library in South King County that is currently in development.
This is how it happened: Zero Waste Washington teamed up with the City of Federal Way and began holding community meetings to build the project. In 2014, Zero Waste reached out to thousands of residents in south King County to talk about sharing and find out what kind of sharing the communities want. The main take-aways we found out are:
- People are excited about sharing and very willing to do it.
- People are most interested in sharing are tools, kids' toys, and outdoor gear.
- Sharing needs to be convenient and free or low-cost.
After the results of the survey, the project was determined to be a community-run tool lending library. The project continues on with support from the City of Federal Way and others. It's still in development.
